SouthwardTech is an independent publication operated by Wayne Zech in Tokyo, Japan. This page explains what we collect when you read the site or subscribe to The Southward Brief, and what we do with it.
What we collect
Reading the site. We run no analytics scripts and set no tracking cookies. Our hosting provider, Cloudways, and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site, log IP addresses, browser details and requested URLs for security and to keep the site running. Both keep these logs for 60 days.
Subscribing. We collect your email address. The signup form sends it straight to beehiiv, our newsletter provider, which stores it and records when emails are opened and which links are clicked. The form submits through the address bar, so your email appears in the request URL that reaches beehiiv; we do not log it ourselves.
Writing to us. If you email hello@southwardtech.com or corrections@southwardtech.com, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it.
Who processes it
beehiiv, Inc. (United States) for newsletter delivery and engagement statistics. Cloudways, with servers in Singapore, for hosting. Cloudflare, Inc. for DNS, CDN and security, which may process traffic at data centres worldwide. Your data may therefore leave the country you live in, including to the United States and Singapore.
How long we keep it
Newsletter data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server and security logs for 60 days. Email correspondence for up to 12 months after the matter is closed.
What we don’t do
We do not sell your data, build advertising profiles, run advertising trackers, or share your information with the companies or governments we cover.
Your rights
Every email has an unsubscribe link. To access, correct or delete your data, or to complain to a supervisory authority, write to hello@southwardtech.com.
Material from sources is handled under our editorial standards, not this policy.
